Can Nickel plated neodymium magnets resist salt spray test for 72 hours?

While choosing the plating of strong neodymium magnets, Zinc and Nickel are the common plating.  When some customers choose plating, they will ask “can nickel plated pass salt spray test for 48 hours?”,“I need a longer time of salt spray test, such as 72 hours, can nickel plated magnets achieve it? ”.

Can nickel plated neodymium magnets resist salt spray test for 72 hours?
There are some difficulties if using nickel plated magnets for 72-hour-spray test. Some customers have high requirements about the resistant of salt mist and acid-base, such as 72 hours. Then you can choose parylene plating, there will be a better guarantee.

Some people might confuse that why don’t recommend epoxy?
It cannot be guaranteed that nickel plated magnets and epoxy plated magnets can pass 72 hours salt spray test. That’s the reason why we only recommend parylene.
If you need 12 hours test for resisting salt spray, zinc plated is recommended to use. There are many kinds of zinc plating like white zinc, blue white zinc, blue zinc, color-zinc and black zinc. And now the salt spray test hours in the market is: white zinc can be tested for 16 hours, blue white zinc is 24hours, color-zinc is 48hours, black zinc is 12hours.

Generally nickel plated magnets can resist salt spray test for 48hours. The basic process of nickel plating is nickel - copper – nickel, which can ensure that magnets will not be damaged in case of corrosion.

Is it Easy for Neodymium Magnets to be Multi-poles Magnetized through Diameter?

Bonded NdFeB magnets can be multi-poles magnetized through diameter, but sintered NdFeB magnets are more difficult. Now there are many magnet manufacturers can’t produce those sintered NdFeB magnets with multi-poles magnetization direction. The neodymium ring magnets that are diametrically multi-poles magnetized need customized corresponding magnetism tool. Otherwise the magnets cannot be magnetized. And the magnetization direction of magnets should be decided by products requirement.

Diametrically multi-poles magnetization is always a very hard technique. So how to solve them while facing these problems?
1、Change to Bonded NdFeB material
Sintered NdFeB magnets have better magnetism, but bonded NdFeB magnets will be more convenient for magnetizing. Bonded neodymium magnets are made by adding magnetic powder to adhesive, It's actually injection molding. The sintered NdFeB magnets are vacuum forming by high temperature heating. The difference between two production modes makes it easier for bonded NdFeB magnets to multi-poles magnetized through diameter.

2、Cut the neodymium magnets into arc shapes, then splicing.
Neodymium ring magnets can be spliced by several arc magnets. Though these ring magnets are spliced together, when the arc magnets splice into a magnetic ring, the magnetic ring can totally reach the requirement. Any magnetic force and direction deviation won’t appear.

How are the strong neodymium disc magnets made?

As you know, neodymium magnets come in various shapes, square, circular, strip, ring, arc, etc. Among them, circular magnet is the most common one. So, here is a question, how is the strong disc magnet made?

I knew nothing about magnet at first, like you do now. After learning, I know that disc magnet is made from cylindrical raw material. After a series of slicing and processing, the magnet can be manufacture in diameter and thickness required by customer.

Actually it is depend on the magnetization direction of the magnet. For most disc magnets, they are magnetized through axle while a few disc magnets are diametrically magnetized. Magnetized through axle, also known as thickness magnetization, results in strong magnetism at both end of the disc magnet. Besides, multi-pole magnetization is available now.
